Dear President Biden,
Congratulations on your election to the highest office on the land. You have broken many barriers through your campaign, and as a woman and an Asian American, we are both excited to see the very first African American, Asian American, and woman Vice President serving alongside you. For this, and for your genuine plea for unity in our nation, we applaud you. We believe in your ability to accomplish great things because we believe in the power of democracy and the greatness of our country.
We are the military brats of America. As Commander-In-Chief, you will directly oversee the missions of the U.S. Military. You will send our troops to foreign lands, determine who leads them, and provide for their well being. These troops include our fathers and the mothers, sisters, and brothers of our fellow military brats. These troops are our flesh and blood.
We know that you know the meaning of service. You have sent your son off to the battlefields, just as we have sent our fathers and family members off to fight. You have legislated for decades, advocating for the people of Delaware and all Americans. You have persevered through great tragedy, demonstrating the resilience and courage that we also see in our service members and families.
Our service members, and those who have gone before them, have put their lives on the line to protect the very democracy that granted you its power. As you go about your duties as leader of our great nation, we ask that you continue in your unwavering support of our community. We know that you understand that each soldier, sailor, airman, marine, guardsman, and guardian is not merely a speck in the formation. They are fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, and loved ones. OUR fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, and loved ones. Please consider this in every military action that you take. Your decisions will affect the lives of so many military children just like us; as you know, it is not just the troops that serve, it is their families as well.
We are proud to have someone in the White House who understands the unique challenges of military life, and we are certain that with Dr. Biden as First Lady, we will once again have a fierce advocate for military families and students. Yet there is still much work that needs to be done.
Military brats need help. We need support from our schools and communities as we lead our transient lifestyles. We need a quality education that will enable us to become future leaders and remain competitive with the rest of the nation. We need leaders to recognize the negative social and emotional impacts that the military lifestyle can have on us, and we need you to act accordingly.
We ask for your commitment. We implore you to act on the ideas of the Biden Plan for Military Families and implement positive change for the dependents of our service members. We adjure you to continue to lift up our military and their families.
We know through your words and actions that you have our backs, regardless of our backgrounds or political beliefs. For this, we sincerely thank you, and we look forward with hope to the bright future of our nation.
Sincerely,
Matthew Oh and Elena Ashburn
