They always ask where I’m from,

And it’s the same answer every time:

“I’m military.”

They always ask what’ my favorite place I’ve lived,

But reliving the memories stings,

So always say the last place I lived.

They always say how lucky I am to get move all over,

But they don’t know what I’ve had to leave behind.

They always ask if I like being in a military family,

But I always struggle to find the words,

And when they say “I’m gonna guess you do,”

I just agree because it’s easier than talking about it.

Because who cares.

I’m gonna leave them in 3 years when I move again,

And nobody but me needs to know the truth.
