Musical Map

Most people measure their lives by places. They remember the town they grew up in, the school they attended, or the neighborhood where they spent their childhood. I can’t recall many of those things, but I do remember the music I listened to in such places.
As someone who has moved frequently, I have found that certain songs have become bookmarks for different chapters of my life. When I hear them, I can remember exactly where I lived when I discovered it.
I remember being little and listening to cartoon soundtracks, Taylor Swift, and whatever country song was on the radio. As I grew, I started to explore and had a bit of an odd taste for a while. I now listen mainly to Daniel Caesar, along with a bunch of other bands and singers.
Some artists remind me of periods when I was figuring out who I was. Some remind me of friendships, hobbies, or memories that have stayed with me long after I left a place behind. Even as my playlists have changed over the years, those songs remain connected to the versions of myself who listened to them.
A few of my favorite artists have become part of that soundtrack. Whether I'm listening while studying, practicing piano, or just relaxing, their music carries memories with it. What makes music special isn't just the sound; it's the way a song can preserve a moment in time.
Music played a large role in my life, especially when moving. I always felt as though there was a song that aligned with my emotions. Whether I was happy about moving or a little disheartened, there was always something I could relate to.
Looking back, I don't always remember every address or every classroom. But I remember the songs I listened to. In many ways, music has become the timeline of my life, marking each chapter with a melody instead of a map.
