The song "Home" by Phillip Phillips is one I was raised on, and it has always resonated with me. The meaning of this song is so close to my heart because I was raised across the world. Lately, it stays with me because the song still seems to understand me and feel like my life. There's so much I wish I could say to little me. But someone did tell her that; this song did.
Hold on to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Hold onto your family, they'll always be there. They’ll be with you through everything, and stay your favorite people. You’ll have so many unfamiliar adventures and times that you don’t know where you’re going, but I promise you’ll get there. Through this adventure, you will have many homes and meet many amazing people.
Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble - it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Don’t spend too long spiraling over those who try to drag you down - there will always so many more people who want to lift you up. And, if you remember anything, remember that you’re not alone and always have a home. Even when you can’t recognize it, you’ll never be alone.
Although I realize that everyone has different stories or songs that stick with them, I hope that someone will hear this song and feel what I feel: the connection, comfort, and nostalgia through the simple and beautiful lyrics of Phillip Phillips.
