I am not like you.
I have not lived confined.
I have moved eight times.
This is how I grow.
Born in camo.
To the sound of gunshots.
My dad has slept on worse things than cots.
Sometimes, I am hollow.
I smile and laugh just like you.
While waiting to say goodbye in the dead of night.
I must try not to cry.
This is true.
I am proud of my life.
Even when I know I’m not like you.
That I’m different.
For this is my pride.
Living this life for our country that is mine.
