The 2022 Military Child of the Year, accomplished violin player, and founder and president of Music Echoes, David Lee, is also the author of a self-help book. His book, titled, How to Become a Superstar: Passion. Purpose. Perseverance., guides readers through his Superstar Formula. Bloom Interviewed Lee to learn more about his book.
Moira Jorgenson: What gave you the idea for this book?
David Lee: The idea came from my life. I thought about the definition of success and contemplated my achievements and accomplishments. I wanted to discover how I managed to make positive impacts on the world through my activities and projects. I researched on the internet by reading articles and blogs about success. I also asked questions and discussed several issues with others. After studying around 200+ pages, I finally had enough information to write a book about it.
MJ: What is the key thing you hope readers gain from your book?
DL: Smiles, hopes, and dreams in life. Nowadays, many people are too addicted to smartphones, especially on social media (TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat…etc). Screen Time was 10+ hours for students, which shocked and surprised me. However, I later figured out that it was because they didn’t have goals or purpose that they really wanted to do in life. From this book, I wish for others to find passion, purpose, and perseverance and be successful in specific areas or fields in life.
MJ: How did you develop the Superstar Formula?
DL: In my life, there were 3 important things. Passion. Purpose. Perseverance. Without these, my life wouldn’t really contain anything. It would feel pointless and empty. I decided to combine all these three, which would allow anyone to become a superstar in a specific area or field. That’s why I named it the Superstar Formula.
MJ: How has life as a military kid affected your approach to reaching your goals?
DL: Life as a military kid affected my approaches and ways because of all my experiences in life. All my moments and memories gave me experiences, which I gained wisdom and improved myself as a person. Through all my military adventures, I can now continue my goals no matter what circumstances.
MJ: What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
DL: If you have an idea or something useful for others, then research and study in depth. It’s important to know a lot about it in order to write a book about it. It’s hard, but never give up.
MJ: Do you plan to write more books in the future?
DL: Yes, I have more ideas and books to be written in the future. It will be mostly about psychology self-help books.
